Mechanical Properties of Recycled Plasticized PVB/PVC Blends

  • Original language description

The comparison of mechanical properties of blends of plasticized poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) with plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) is studied in order to evaluate the possibility of the re-use recycled PVB from waste of windshields. Blends can be used for various applications such as flooring, production of glue, many uses in civil engineering and also automotive industry. Tested PVC was plasticized with 38 % of diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and of PVB was plasticized with 28 % of triethylene glycol,bis(2-ethylhexanoate) (3GO). Mechanical properties of each blend from zero to 100 % PVB composition were compared. Youngs module and the entropy were also used for the explanation. The paper also compares differences between recycled and original PVB such as optimal process conditions for blend PVB/PVC in ratio 1:1.
