The Hochbrücke (Highway Bridge) in Wismar was built in 1970 as the longest prestressed concrete bridge in the former GDR. It is 396 m long, comprises of 15 fields, which rest on deep foundations. The bridge as a part of the road B 105 leads the traffic across railway tracks, a street and the Mühlenteich (engl. = mill pond). After reunification of Germany the Hochbrücke was checked in the course of the exploration of the state of bridges in Mecklenburg-Pomerania concerning damages due to alkali silica reaction (ASR). In 2001 the bridge was investigated in detail by the Building Department of University Rostock, and the damages were assessed as reparable. The required remediation work was carried out in 2005.
