The paper presents a numerical study of failure behavior of cement-based composite materials differing in their composition, particularly the aggregate size. A set of four different materials was tested in two variants of splitting test geometry. Duringthese tests, apart from the typical outputs such as the load?displacement curves, signals from failure events causing acoustic emission (AE) were recorded. Subsequently, the event?s localization analysis was performed. However, reliability of the procedures of the failure events localization might seem questionable in some cases. There-fore, the test evaluation procedures were accompanied by analyses using numerical simulation tools based on non-linear fracture-mechanics approach. 3D numerical simulations of the stress distribution evolution and the crack (more precisely the fracture process zone) propagation in the specimens are performed using two computational codes.
