Verification of Bridge Load Bearing Capacity with Respect to Its Current Condition

  • Original language description

Verification of the remaining working life and actual load bearing capacity of bridges with regards to their current condition is the main issue nowadays. Bridge inspections and detailed diagnostic surveys are the main sources of information about current state, dimensions, actual material properties and environmental effects. All these information are subsequently used to create and improve a computational model of analysed bridge. Also, mathematical modelling of degradation processes, such as concretecarbonation, chloride ingress and subsequent corrosion of reinforcement is very important for prediction of load bearing capacity over time. Within the paper a highly deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge is analysed as a case study. The age of the structure is about 100 years, which corresponds to the design lifetime according to standards. Verification of actual load bearing capacity is performed with respect to the current condition of the bridge using nonlinear finite element meth
