Verification of Strain Gauge and Geodetic Measurements during Long-term Monitoring of Gagarin Bridge in Working Conditions

  • Original language description

The paper deals with issues of measurement use to assess behavior of structures. The integrated approach of using the strain gauge and geodetic methods enables to verify both methods and evaluate temperature dependencies of structures. Nowadays, the strain gauge and geodetic measurements are used separately. However, integration of both methods contributes to find real behavior of structures. Utilization of knowledge of measurement integration can be applied for example during long term monitoring of structures or during static load test measurements. The actual measured values of deflections and structure’s deformations are mainly influenced by ambient temperature, variable temperature of the structure and by other external conditions. It is necessary to determine clear values of deflection and deformation without influence of external conditions to correctly evaluate behavior of a structure. Geodetic methods determine absolute changes related to reference system, strain gauges determine relative changes within the structure with higher accuracy. Selected interesting results of verification of strain and geodetic measurements gained from long term monitoring of bridge called Gagarin (built in 1961) in working conditions are described in this article. The thermal field of the structure was measured by thermometers and thermal cameras. The aim of the research was to integrate both methods and use them effectively to design and assess structures in building practice – mainly structures with small deformations.
