    This experimental study investigates a behaviour of concrete columns strengthened with an FRP wrapping. The main aim is to verify an accuracy of selected design methods utilized for determination of column load bearing capacity. A method of confinement (like the number of layers and the orientation of the fabric), a sequential activation of FRP fabric and a slenderness of elements belongs to the investigated parameters. Except the studies performed on the short columns a behaviour of tall columns was monitored in addition. With regards to slenderness there were two types of columns - massive and slender columns. Tested specimens were represented by columns of circular cross-section with or without reinforcement. Longitudinal reinforcements as well as a transverse reinforcements in the form of a helix were used. A load combination of normal force and bending moment was possible to use during loading thanks to the appropriate configuration of an experimental equipment. The result was a description of behaviour of confined columns almost in the entire range of an interaction diagram. Also it was possible to ensure a lateral pressure on FRP fabric induced tri-axial state of stress. Finally, experimental results were compared with interaction diagram values assessed according to EN 1992-1-1 (2006) procedure. An inseparable part of the paper is a discussion about achieved accuracy. The comparison of individual specimen behaviour allows to describe effects of slenderness on the results and the efficiency of FRP jackets with regard to activation of the fabric. The experimental research confirms that the slenderness of the column is necessary to take into account when designing the strengthening by FRP wrapping.
