The estimate of soil grain size using the EIS method
Original language description
Soil grain size is the basic parameter for designating mineral grains of various sizes. The size range of grains in soil depends to a large extent on the composition and origin of soil. The abundance of grain size fractions (clay and sand) influences particularly the infiltration of water into soils, runoff into groundwater and the abundance of pores, which also enables an indirect evaluation of the water and air regime of soils. A graphic depiction of soil grain size is a grain size curve that serves for the estimate of the coefficient of permeability, the susceptibility of soil to freezing, the compactibility of soil and the suitability of soil for dam construction. This paper describes the determination of the estimate of soil grain size using the method of electrical impedance spectrometry (EIS) applying a Z-meter device in laboratory and field conditions.
