Parametric analysis of BiPV façade coupled with transparent insulation

  • Original language description

Solar thermal façade concepts for building integration is currently in a rapid progress. This contribution presents a numerical study of a coupling two solar based building materials on photovoltaics (PV) and transparent insulation (TIM) basis for novel approach of building façade integration. The aim of this analysis is to identify thermal and energy effective criteria for building integrated photovoltaic (BiPV) facade and TIM concept. The presented focus includes an investigation of the solar thermal façade at the case study level, in which proposed solar thermal concepts are applied in Central European conditions. Numerical investigations are based on building energy simulations and parametric variations of selected physical parameters and air cavity dimensioning of the each component. Special attention was focused on thermal and optical indicators as well as ventilated regimes to decrease overheating aspects. Secondly, using TIM with combination of ventilated principles in the photovoltaic management could influence operating temperature of PV cell and thereupon change its efficiency. Influence of ventilated/non-ventilated regime has been also observed especially on thermal exchange between the façade and interior space. Outputs of simulations revealed that incorporation of TIM in the BiPV façade can significantly change overall performance of the façade system.
