Relationship between microstructure of carbonate rocks, calcite crystallinity and decarbonisation process during lime burning

  • Original language description

Limestones have been a subject of extensive examination and investigation for more than a hundred years. Their burning is producing the calcium oxide which is the basis for the production of quicklime and limestone and the raw material for cement clinker production. Despite limestones are one of the most common and widespread natural raw materials on the planet, it cannot yet be proven beyond dispute why apparently the same types of limestones yield limes of different properties at an identical burning process and to what extent the physicochemical and microstructural properties of limestones infl uence the formation of clinker phases.
