Determining the Sustainability of Concrete with Recycled Aggregate

  • Original language description

Sustainable development has been a very topical issue worldwide in the last few years. Therefore, it was necessary to present different ways of determining and evaluating the sustainability of buildings, especially during their design. However, sustainability assessment is a very complex phenomenon which is constantly developing and updating. A great number of factors must be taken into consideration when doing the assessment - one of the most important ones is the assessment of materials used for construction. Concrete is an important construction material, currently the most widely used. However, it has an adverse environmental impact. That is why the article deals with the sustainability of concrete in whose composition natural aggregate is partly replaced with recycled aggregate. The aim of the article is to present the possibility of quantifying the sustainability of such concretes, especially on the basis of their strength properties, resistance to the effects of degrading factors, and the extent of environmental burden.
