Factors affecting biological processes of wastewater treatment
Original language description
The most common method of wastewater treatment employs biological treatment. This publication focuses on aerobic biological wastewater treatment. There are two basic events - nitrification and denitrification, which most often take place in one or more activation reactors. These processes decompose organic matter in wastewater. All processes mainly take place thanks to the presence of micro-organisms, which are undoubtedly susceptible to a number of external influences. The paper describes, for example, the effect of temperature and composition of wastewater, including real-life examples of temperatures and chemical analyses of several WWTPs influents and effluents. Therefore, the effect of temperature and wastewater composition on monitored parameter removal efficiency is evaluated. Another influencing factor is the composition of MLSS, which is related to the demands for the synthesis of microorganisms. Last but not least, the method of controlling the activation reactors and the volumes of supplie
