Deterioration-based probabilistic assessment of design resistance of railway bridge

  • Original language description

The combination of non-linear finite element method and deterioration-based analysis is a strong tool for realistic modelling of structures. On the other hand, it is still highly time consuming to perform fully probabilistic analysis of large-scale models with many stochastic input variables. Therefore, in practice, structural designers and engineers are more often interested in semi-probabilistic methods, which are able to greatly reduce a number of required non-linear calculations. The paper is focused on reliability assessment of existing railway bridge made of cast-in steel beams. An advanced numerical analysis represented by a non-linear finite element model is used in combination with standard semi-probabilistic methods, such as ECoV method as well as a recently proposed eigen ECoV method. To consider the current condition of the bridge superstructure, concrete carbonation and subsequent corrosion of steel beams are modelled using analytical models which take the basic material parameters as well as environmental characteristics into account.
