K-Value Determination Options for Active Admixtures
Original language description
Concrete admixtures have been successfully used in cementitious composites (especially in concrete) for many years. Recently, however, their importance and usefulness has been increasing, especially with regard to the reduction of the clinker factor in concrete production. In the application of active admixtures in concrete, as a partial replacement of cement, k-value concepts are used in the design of concrete formulation and the calculation of the water coefficient. However, it is essentially a matter of determining the amount of total countable binder, i.e. the cement and part of the active admixture used to calculate the water coefficient. However, this concept does not address the activity of the admixture and the determination of the equivalent replacement of the cement by an admixture with a given hydraulic activity. The k-value concepts are poorly defined in the Czech standards. At present, the k-value only describes the effect of the addition of an active admixture on the value of the hydraulic coefficient, but does not take into account the dependence between the activity of the admixture and the replacement potential of a given cement type.
