The use of aggregates with different resistance to polishing in wearing courses
Original language description
The paper presents conclusions of a research project, which dealt with the use of aggregates with high and low resistance to polishing in asphalt mixtures for wearing courses. As part of the project, asphalt mixtures (stone mastic asphalt and asphalt concrete for wearing courses) were designed with various combinations of aggregates - basalt and greywacke. Basalt is a local, cheap aggregate with a low resistance to polishing, while greywacke is highly resistant to polishing but must be imported from a distant quarry. Several test sections were made from these asphalt mixtures. Friction after polishing was measured on cores taken from these sections. Based on the results, the asphalt mixture with the highest amount of basalt but still sufficient friction coefficient value was selected for paving a test section whose longitudinal friction coefficient is measured regularly. The paper presents the results of these measurements and evaluates the service life of the road skid resistance in the test section
