The set of sensors for measuring vibrations on the rail grid and its immediate surroundings.

  • Original language description

The developed functional sample is a set of three-axis vibration sensors for research and operational vibration measurements on the rail superstructure and in its vicinity. The set consists of three types of MEMS sensors with different amplitude and frequency ranges. Each of the sensors has its own customized electronics to connect to the measuring equipment. One type of transducer is designed for measurement on rails (200g), the second for measurement on sleepers (16g) and the third for measurement around railway tracks (2 to 6g switchable range). The output variable is the electrical voltage. The sensors require a 5V power supply. Each of the sensors is equipped with a cable and a Canon 9 pin connector. The layout of the individual pins is designed specifically to meet the needs of the Sbox measurement control panel. However, the sensors can very easily be used when creating reducers in other measuring panels. A sensor calibration system has also been assembled as part of the assembly.

  • Technical parameters

The acceleration sensor kit is composed of two types of MEMS chips from Analog Devices and one chip from STMicroelectronics with different amplitude and frequency ranges. Each of the sensors has its own electronics with customization to connect to the measuring device. One type of transducer is designed for measurement on rails (ADXL377, sensitivity 7,15 mV/g, 200g, 0-1000 Hz), another for measurement on sleepers (ADXL326. sensitivity 62,7 mV/g, measuring range 16g, 0-500 Hz) and a third for measurement around railway tracks (LIS344ALH, sensitivity 660/220 mV/g, 2 and 6g switchable range, 0-150 Hz). The output variable is the electrical voltage. The sensors require a 5V power supply. Each of the sensors is equipped with a cable and a Canon 9 pin connector. The sensors are housed (encased in a special material) in a waterproof box with the option of mounting with screws on the surface to be measured or attachment with a magnet. The output variable is an electrical voltage. The sensors require a 5V power supply. Each of the sensors is equipped with a cable and a Canon 9 pin connector. The layout of the individual pins is designed specifically for the needs of the Sbox measurement control panel (pin 5-earth, pin 1-5V, pins 2,3,4-X,Y,Z). However, the sensors can very easily be used when creating reductions in other measuring panels. Currently there are reducers to meet the needs of the Dewetron 2500 and Pulse B&K 3053-B-120 control panels.

  • Economical parameters

A set of accelerometers designed for measurements on and around the railway superstructure provides the possibility to measure and study vibration phenomena on the railway superstructure. The knowledge of the phenomena occurring on the superstructure and its surroundings will enable optimum maintenance of railway lines and the design of appropriate anti-vibration measures. At present, the economic benefits cannot be evaluated. On the other hand, the functional sample provides a cheap and sufficiently accurate solution and therefore the possibility to implement the sensing of vibration phenomena at a very affordable price. Therefore, it is also expected to be used in the context of teaching professional courses and students' theses.
