The article presents the project “Climate cHangE Resistant DanUBe rIver eMbankments,” which addresses the growing threat of climate change to the stability of river embankments along the Danube. A multidisciplinary team from five universities conducted field surveys, laboratory analyses, and numerical simulations in Austria, Slovakia, Serbia, and Bulgaria to assess geotechnical properties and the vulnerability of embankments to flooding. Advanced modeling techniques were used, such as hypoplasticity, HASP, smooth particle hydrodynamics and geotechnical centrifuge modeling. The research also included the influence of vegetation on slope stability and the behavior of partially saturated soils. The project further explored sustainable remediation technologies (e.g., deep soil mixing and jet grouting) and connects engineering innovation with international cooperation to enhance flood resilience, modernize monitoring, and support the transfer of knowledge into research and education.
