Fuzzy Extensions of Functional Dependencies in Relational Databases

  • Original language description

Fuzzy functional dependencies play an important role in fuzzy relational databases. They reflect a sort of semantic knowledge about the real world and they may be regarded as integrity constraints of a fuzzy database model. In this paper, fuzzy functional dependencies are defined as fuzzy extensions of "ordinary" functional dependencies of classical relational databases. Three possible extensions are presented depending on the selection of fuzzy implication operator. Their use in determining a transitive closure, fuzzy keys and in database design is described.
