Application of Statistical Concept of Roughness-Induced Crack Closure to Titanium and Aluminium Alloys.
Original language description
A statistical concept based on the local ratio between the characteristic microstucture distance and the plastic zone size is used to estimate the contribution of the roughness-induced crack closure (RIC). In this analysis, only standard materials data are necessary as the yield stress, the mean characteristic microstructure size, the surface roughness and the fracture mode, respectively. Values of the RIC component of the total closure effect were calculated for alpha-titanium, Ti-2.5wt%Cu alloy and 74475 aluminum alloy with different microstructures and for various load ratios.
