This contribution describes problems concerning design of information systems for tool data management in machine-industries company. The paper includes theoretical essay on problems concerning design of these IS (information systems) and also includes information on design of IS for tool data management, which is being developed at the Institute of Production Machines, Systems and Robotics FME, Brno University of Technology. On the development also cooperate the Institute of Information Technologiess,Faculty of Technology, Tomas Bata Univerzity in Zlín and Tajmac-ZPS a.s. company. The design of the IS has to meet requirements of machine-industries company on content and forms of information presentation, while maintaining technological and technicalqualities of information system. It is not easy to fulfill every requirement as this IS has to handle many different sections of the machine-industries company. Příspěvek se zabývá problematikou návrhu informačního systému pro nástrojové hospodářství strojírenských podniků. Příspěvek obsahuje nejen teoretické pojednání o problematice návrhu těchto IS (informačních systémů), ale obsahuje i informace o vlastním návrhu IS pro nástrojové hospodářství vyvíjeného na ústavu výrobních strojů, systémů a robotiky FSI, VUT Brno ve spolupráci s Institutem informačních technologií na Univerzitě Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně a dále ve spolupráci s firmou Tajmac ? ZPS, a.s. se sídlemmve Zlíně. Vlastní návrh IS by měl vycházet z požadavků strojírenských podniků na obsah a formu prezentace informací při současném zajištění technologických a technických kvalit informačního systému. Vzhledem k tomu, že tyto IS se týkají velké části jednotlivých úseků strojírenského podniku, není jednoduché splnit všechny jejich požadavky.
