Charpy tests for preventing rapid crack propagation in PE pipes
Original language description
Small crack growth (SCG) limits the lifetime of polyethelene pipes. The extra ordinary circumstance can evolve creation of stress raisers that can lead to form a crack and its rapid propagation (RCP). There are two tests, full - scale test (FST) and small - scale - steady - state test (S4) that can estimate resistance against this phenomena. These tests are very expensive and time consuming. This contribution deals with alternative tests (PSI and Inverted Charpy test) that can be used as an inexpensivemethod to predict the results from S4 test for preventing RCP.
