Fatigue Life Evaluation of Composite Structures
Original language description
This paper is aimed at fatigue life evaluation of composite structures. Fatigue in fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) and differences between fatigue in composites and metals are briefly described in the beginning of paper. Applicability of Building Block Approach (BBA) to fatigue life evaluation of FRP and fatigue test of real composite structures are also mentioned in the article. Experiments described in the paper are aimed at fatigue properties comparison of composites specimens manufactured by two different technologies. The first examined manufacturing technology is hand lay-up with consequence vacuum-bagging and the second one is resin film infusion (RFI). Same reinforcement was used for both technologies, matrix systems were different. Simple cyclic bending load was applied on specimens during fatigue tests. Tests were carried out on device specially developed for this experiment.
