Material Properties of Bone Tissue Obtained from CT for Biomechanics Purposes
Original language description
This article deals with possibilities of a CT image processing. The CT images are nowadays usually used for creation of geometry models of bones but besides, it is also possible to get from these images information of an apparent density of the cancellous bone. Moreover, based on the known correlation equations mechanical properties of the bone can be obtained. The density can be expressed in Hounsfield units and this quantity play very important role in a preoperative diagnostics. For instance, bone quality is the relevant factor in case of dental implant application. New software called ROI Analysis which can easily perform CT image processing has been developed. By using this software it is possible to analyze the quality of bones and results can beused in computational modeling as well. Finite element models for a specific person can be built. Possibilities of new created software are presented in three examples.
