Development of an effervescent spray model for combustion simulations and its application to modelling of a large-scale furnace
Original language description
The aim of this paper is to develop an effervescent spray model for combustion simulations. The use of effervescent atomizers is constantly increasing and therefore the need to develop appropriate models is increasing as well. In the first part of this study the experimental setup is presented along with a short description of the software used for raw data analysis. Used models for spray formation and fluid flow are described and CFD simulation results are compared with experimental data in terms of drop size distribution. In the following part the spray model is employed in a CFD simulation of swirling combustion of extra light fuel oil in a large scale water cooled test combustor. Wall heat fluxes are computed and compared with experimental results. Results from both simulations and measurements are discussed and potential improvements are proposed as directions for future work.
