Crack resistance evaluation of metallic materials used in medical devices
Original language description
There are increasing demands imposed on materials used in medicine, whether through the manufacture of devices and medical equipment, or biocompatible materials and components proposed and used in the human body. In principle it is very important to characterize these materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, and alloys) by good resistance against crack developments and corrosion, in addition to the common mechanical properties required such as density, hardness (strength), rigidity (elastic properties) etc. So fracture toughness evaluation belongs to important quality control of the materials to be used for both the medical devices and materials for tissue engineering. At the same time the International Organization for Standardization and other standardization authorities play a major role in the development the unification of methods for testing procedures to improve rules for the material properties evaluation. In the current work we summaries the basic methods for determining fractur
