DETERMINATION OF RESIDUAL FATIGUE LIFE OF RAILWAY WHEELSET

  • Original language description

The paper deals with an estimation of residual fatigue life of railway wheelset. In general the railway wheelsets can include some cracks. Some of them could be dangerous for the safe operation of the train. So, knowledge of the cracks behaviour during service of the train is necessary. For a conservative calculation it is considered an existing initial crack in dangerous place of railway axle. Numerical calculations simulating a growing crack take into account real loading spectrum and two most commonmaterials EA1N, EA4T using for railway axles. Special attention is devoted to the influence of order of loading cycles on residual fatigue life of railway axle. This calculation could be useful for establishing of service intervals (revealing the cracksbefore fatigue fracture).
