Oxidation Performance of Cold Sprayed Ti-Al Barriers on gamma-TiAl Intermetallic Substrates
Original language description
Four blends of Al powder doped with 0%, 5%, 15%, and 30% Ti content were prepared and their respective morphology and chemical compositions were specified. Using low-pressure cold spray, protective layers of the blends designated for deliberate oxidationwere then deposited onto Ti-46Al-7Nb substrates, while preserving their initial chemical composition and retaining its original mutual Al:Ti ratio. Prior to long-term oxidation testing, heat-treatment in a protective argon atmosphere under temperatures420'C-580'C was carried out in order to induce formation of intermetallic phases within the deposits and further compact the layers. Following the treatment, the specimens were subjected to 950'C exposure for 100, 250 and 500hrs, respectively and their respective oxidation performance was monitored using the gravimetric method. It was found that the heat-treatments conducted above 500'C prompted an activation of Al-driven diffusion processes in the sprayed coatings, leading to a formatio
