Up-to-date modular waste-to-energy unit for processing various types of wastes
Original language description
Waste-to-energy (WtE) units are designed as stationary ones at present. However, tailor-made solutions are necessary once we want to achieve maximum effectiveness from “3E” (Energy – Environment – Economy) points of view. Therefore a concept of modular WtE units represents an up-to-date solution. Such a concept offers a different philosophy in design of WtE technologies enabling flexibility taking into account character and type of waste, its amount (capacity of the unit), logistics, campaign regime in terms of availability of waste in considered region/micro-region, heat and power utilization etc. A conceptual approach consists in a modular arrangement, i.e. in installation of well proven technological items (subsystems) into standardized containers, and consequent installation taking into account such an assembly which is optimum for the processed waste on site. This solution enables flexibility given by inputs into and outputs from the WtE unit. It provides also other benefits in terms of easier and fast manufacturing of key pieces of equipment, installation and dismantling, transport into a different region/micro-region etc. Therefore this approach provides us with possibility to process both municipal solid waste, industrial and hazardous waste, sludge from local waste water treatment units, biomass and contaminated biomass etc. Basic subsystems (waste feeding, thermal system, heat recovery, off-gas cleaning system) consisting of containers have to be designed accordingly.
