Methanol as a fuel variant for tomorrow
Original language description
Methanol has the potential to play a leading role as a fuel, as a source of energy and chemical raw materials, and thus to make a decisive contribution to the energy transition. It is available from synthesis gas based on natural gas or coal or carbon dioxide and regeneratively produced hydrogen, for example from the electrolysis of water with solar or wind energy. The use of CO2 from the incineration of waste or biomass closes the carbon cycle. As a liquid, methanol can also be used as a transport form for chemically bound energy. It is its versatility, which is why methanol-based fuels can seamlessly complement or replace classic fossil fuels. In the form of fuel cell electric vehicles, methanol can close the gap between internal combustion engine drives and electromobility with a long range.
