Effect Of Heat Treatment On Mechanical Properties Of AlSi7Mg0,6 Aluminium Alloy Processed By SLM

  • Original language description

Due to specific conditions during the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) process such aslocal melting and solidification, high thermal gradients and repetitive thermal loading high residual stresses areinduced in the fabricated components. Thermal post processing aiming atrelieving residual stress from the component is necessary to prevent part distortion. Commonly used heat treatments for additively manufactured aluminium components are based on a simple annealing, which also significantly reduces mechanical properties such asproofstress or ultimate tensile strength. The paper presents a comparison of different ways of thermal post-processing of AlSi7Mg0.6 aluminium alloy fabricated by SLM. Cantilever specimens and tensile testing specimens were used to evaluate the effect of four different heat treatments. The positive effect of solution treatment with quenching and artificial ageing on strength properties with simultaneous induction of compressive residual stress in the top surface of the specimen is presented.
