    Device for an evaluation of particulate matter emissions from railway sanding

  • Original language description

    3-WP08-005: The device includes technical means for an experimental evaluation of airborne particle emissions of a wheel-rail contact, especially due to the sanding and wear of wheel and rail materials. The device is designed for the implementation in a twin-disc experimental test rig as a standard approach for lab-scale research on the tribology of the wheel-rail interface. This facility is intended for the research on technologies leading to the reduction of particulate matter emissions in rail transport. The research conducted under both laboratory and field conditions aims to understand the mechanism of dust formation when the material passes through the contact and as a result of its resumption due to the traffic.
