Bifurcation phenomena and Chaos in PWM - based cascade control Electrical Drives

  • Original language description

: It has been demonstrated previously that some switched mode power electronic circuits such as buck and boost converters ,pulse-width-modulated (PWM) converters etc. can exhibit chaos for significantly large ranges of parameter values. Such power electronic devices are often used as power-conversion units in modern electrical drives. Therefore, it is interesing to study possibility of chaotic behavior in closed loop electrical drives, and its influence on drive performance. In this paper we present ourresults in theore- tical analysis of bifurcation and chaos in a PWM-based cascade control electical drive. The paper also pre- sents the well-known phenomena of unpredicted occurence occurence of high levels of torque pulsations and jitter, explained through bifurcation and chaos .The corresponding phase orbits on the speed-torque plane and bifurcation diagrams are presented. The results can also be useful for electromechanical engineers.
