    The ATM technology is able to satisfy different needs of applications that will make use of this transmission technology. The existence of different transmission service categories that are directly on the level of the ATM layer is a concrete manifestation of this possibility. The ABR service category allows a quick reaction to the moving state in the network and an adjustment of its data flow so that transmission lines are used to the maximum but they are not overloaded. This paper deals with the mechaanisms and algorithms of flow control of the ABR service category.
