Removing artifacts from EEG signals using ICA

  • Original language description

The electroencephalography is a special diagnostic method which enables the recording of electrical activity of the brain. The electroencephalogram (EEG) consists of a set of signals measured with electrodes placed on the scalp. This EEG signals comprisenot only signals of the brain electrical activity but also other different signals. These signals are firstly an electrical signals of head muscular groups, eyes movement, signals of the heart electrical activity ECG etc. Furthermore the signals caan comprise noise, supply network artifact or movement artifacts which degrade EEG signals. Artifacts mostly have bigger amplitude then EEG signals and therefore overlay the EEG signals information. This article focuses on the use of Independent Component Analysis - ICA as a progressive method for removing artifact from electroencephalogram.
