This paper emphasizes on the performance of the flow control and resource allocation mechanisms of the Medium Access Control layer of GPRS when modified for satellite mode operations. In addition, the terrestrial & satellite mode configurations have beencompared in terms of transmission-time, for different data sizes. The results obtained show a lot of promise for satellite based packet data services, especially the dual mode phone technology, leading to Geo-Mobile Satellite Systems, which can offer ann attractive alternate solution in the rapidly growing area of mobile satellite packet data services.

Tento článek je věnován otázkám, týkajícím se vrstvy Medium Access Control v systému GPRS, modifikovaném pro potřeby spojení pomocí družic. Součástí článku je porovnání pozemní a satelitní verze systému ve využití pro různé objemy přenášených dat. Výsledky nastiňují možnost rozsáhlého využití dané technologie pro satelitní telefonní sítě.
