    Estimation of Ultrasound Attenuation Coefficient

  • Original language description

The paper presents a new approach to estimating the attenuation parameters of tissues from radiofrequency data used in B-mode ultrasonographic imaging. Based on analysis of short segments of the radiofrequency signals, the method gives a parametric imageof the mean attenuation coefficients between the probe and the given pixel. This parametric image is then used to estimate the local tissue-specific attenuation coefficient in regions of homogeneous tissues. The method has been tested on radiiofrequencysignals recorded from a tissue-mimicking phantom and on clinical radiofrequency data. The results show a fairly good correlation between the estimated and the reference values.
