The industrial production of VCSEL diodes started several years ago. Especially VCSELs are equipped with the distributed Bragg reflector and the quantum well structure at the same time 0. It improves their linewidth and decreases threshold and efficiencyof the electro-optic conversion. VCSELs have advantages over conventional edge-emitting diode lasers in circular output beams and quite easy coupling into fibers. They have a wide range of applications in laser interferometry and spectroscopy. At presennt VCSELs become very attractive in optical communications in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) systems. Such applications require lasers emitting at standardized wavelengths with high stability. Single wavelength emission and stability is one of the most important factors that determine the number of channels and their spacing in the WDM network.
