Very important changes have happened in last twenty years in development of electric motors used in applications for material handling especially lift trucks. Direct current (DC) motors have been replaced by alternating current (AC) motors, mainly by induction motors. This paper deals with current trends of using electric motors in material handling drives supplied from batteries, their advantages and disadvantages. A part of this work is also perspectives of new types of the electric motors as switchedreluctance motors (SRM), brushless direct current motors (BLDC), synchronous permanent magnet motors (SMPM) and direct, gearless drives in these applications.

V průběhu posledních dvaceti došlo k významný změnám ve vývoji elektrických motorů pro manipulační techniku, hlavně pro vysokozdvižné vozíky. Stejnosměrné motory jsou postupně nahrazovány motory střídavými, hlavně asynchronními s kotvou na krátko. Tentopříspěvek se zabývá současnými trendy ve vývoji elektrických motorů pro pohony v manipulační technice napájené z baterií, jejich výhodami i nevýhodami. Částí této práce jsou i perspektivy nových typů elektrických motorů jako spínaných reluktančních motorů, synchronních motorů s permanentními magnety (SMPM) na rotoru a přímého bezpřevodového pohonu.
