The paper deals with the standard of HDTV (High-Definition TV), its coding (compression algorithms) and its possible deployment in the DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcast - Terrestrial) medium. First the properties of basic HDTV formats and different meaningsof the term "aspect ratio" are analyzed. Then the various formats of input data flows and compressions used in HDTV are described. A brief description is given of the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codes compared with the MPEG2 codec used mainly in SDTV (Standard Definition TV). In conclusion, the new format, DVB-T2, and its advantages over DVB-T are given.

Článek se zabývá standardem HDTV (High Definition TV) a jeho kódováním (kompresními algoritmy) a jeho možností nasazení v prostředí DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcast - Terrestrial). Nejprve jsou rozebrány vlastnosti základních formátů HDTV a různé významy pojmu "poměr stran". Dále jsou popsány různé formáty vstupních datových toků a kompresí používaných u HDTV. Krátce jsou popsány výhody kodeku H.264/MPEG-4 AVC vůči kodeku MPEG2 používaného hlavně u SDTV (Standard Definition TV). Závěr je uveden nový formát DVB-T2 a jeho přínos ve srovnání s DVB-T.
