The impact of modulation formats used in passive optical network
Original language description
In this paper, a performance analysis of the non-return-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ), carrier-suppressed RZ (CSRZ) and chirped RZ (CRZ) modulation formats in passive optical networks has been carried out. The influence of nonlinearities and dispersion effects in short-distance passive networks is smaller in comparison with long-haul transmission links. Eye opening, BER and Q-factor have been used for the performance analysis. The performance of all modulation formats has not been affected by growing input power, unlike in the case of long-haul links. It has been found that the performance of the CSRZ modulation format may double the distance.
