Original language description
Laser beam attenuation due to phenomena in the atmosphere such as scattering, absorption and turbulence as well as some link parameters such as laser power or receiver sensitivity depend on the wavelength of light used for communication. This paper dealswith comparison of the link availability and usable link distance for typical transmission optical windows 850 and 1550 nm in turbulent and dispersive environment taking into consideration dependence of the receiver sensitivity on the wavelength. The atmospheric attenuation and consequently laser beam communication link availability were calculated by using actual visibility data collected at several airports in Europe.
