    This paper deals with the correlating principle of the optical range finding device and influence of the environment and reflecting surface to the function of the device. In the paper, influence of the reflecting surface is studied, including influence under irradiation with the polarized laser beam. Influence of atmospheric environment was studied, mainly atmospheric turbulence and atmospheric extinction was turned over. Principle of correlating optical range finding device was verified partly with simulations and measurements with real monostatic range finding device and surfaces parameters. Active range of the device was calculated for different cases.
