Original language description
Common snow observation generally includes measurement of its depth in order to control its increment over time. These tasks are realized mostly manually or using ultrasound. To measure snow weight, more complex and mostly heavy sensor devices such as Snow Pillows or Scales are used. We have designed novel light-weight sensor that can accurately performs measurement of Snow Height and Snow Water Equivalent. Together with the know temperature we can use these parameters for the snow weight estimation. The sensor structure, measuring principle and results from laboratory experiments are introduced in this paper.
