Simulation-based study on capacity performance of 4G mobile network for M2M services
Original language description
The deployment of 4G cellular networks represents very attractive step not only for the mobile network operators. Besides the expected benefits, it also implies in certain risk especially because of rapidly increasing amounts of data traffic generated bymachine-to-machine communications. Therefore, it is very important to know where are the capacity limits of 4G mobile networks for emerging M2M services. There are some solutions how to avoid the state when all network resources are consumed and mobilenetwork is not able to handle new requests. One of them is called mobile data offloading, but the implementation of these mechanisms, in general, consumes additional effort and expenditures of telecommunication operators. Hence we provide this study on the capacity performance of 4G network to define an area where the implementation of additional mechanisms is efficient or not. The study was performed in the OPNET Modeler simulation environment.
