Remote Management of Intelligent Devices: Using TR-069 Protocol in IoT
Original language description
The aggressive expansion of new smart devices connected to the Internet is nowadays considered as one of the most challenging parts of the Internet of Things (IoT) vision. As a special segment of IoT, the smart home gateways, called Machine-Type Communication Gateway (MTCG), represent the hot topic for industry also including telecommunication operators. In most cases, the MTCG acts as a bridge between connected smart objects and public network (Internet). As consequence of the IoT domain development, the standalone configuration of each Machine-to-Machine (M2M) device is no more efficient due to constantly increasing number of M2M nodes. To perform this task, several new technologies have been introduced recently, however, also legacy protocols and mechanisms for remote network management have application potential in IoT as well. Following this, we have investigated well-known protocol TR-069 with particular focus on its usability for MTCG. To this end, we have developed the software module (bundle) based on the TR- 069 for remote configuration and management of MTCG as well as the end smart devices. We believe that our implementation (available as open source on GitHub) can serve as a building block in future management of IoT devices. Moreover, TR-069 as well proven and standardized technology can be easily deployed by most of network and service providers.
