Enhancement of Eletrochemical Properties of Lithium-Sulfur Batteries by Infiltration of Soluble Sulfur
Original language description
Various materials have been reported as an efficient host for sulfur to improve cycle performance and inhibit drawbacks in lithium-sulfur batteries. Metal-organic frameworks with their unique structure can confine polysulfides and restrain the shuttle effect. Microporous metal-organic framework MOF-76(Gd) was synthesized and applied as a support for sulfur in lithium-sulfur batteries. To increase the distribution of sulfur in carbon material, improve the confinement and encapsulation of sulfur, dissolution of sulfur was performed in carbon disulfide in the presence of carbon material. The modification of the electrode material by dissolved sulfur showed enhanced discharge capacity even at a high C-rate. Consequently, the cathode with MOF-76(Gd) and dissolved sulfur exhibited the discharge capacity of 788 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C in the 50th cycle compared to 686 mAh g-1 for the electrode without dissolved sulfur.
