Self-Consistent Access to Radiative Heat Transfer in Arc Plasma Models

  • Original language description

A self-consistent access to the radiative heat transfer in arc plasma models has been employed. The P1 method for solving the equation of radiative transfer has been considered along with the multiband approximation for the spectral absorption coefficient. The results for a free-burning arc and a plasma spray torch have been compared to those obtained with the net emission coefficient taken for a radius of 1 mm, which is a common input in many arc models. The P1-approach predicts lower radiative losses and higher temperatures in the hot arc core than the NEC-approach. Absorption of radiation near electrodes/walls is predicted in the P1-based models.
