Investigation of a Specific Effect of Alcohol on Formants
Original language description
In this paper, we investigated the influence of alcohol on speech production. Specifically, the effect on formant properties was investigated in terms of individual formants and combinations of formants and vowels in the 2D frequency plane - the so-called vowel triangles. The voices of sixteen individuals from an open-access database were used for this purpose. The data were reformatted, processed and displayed by internal and specially programmed algorithms in MATLAB. The effect of alcohol on formants was investigated for a selected group of vowels /A e i o u/ to maintain a good spatial dispersion. The results show a systematic effect of alcohol on the frequency distribution of individual formants and the spatial properties of triangles in the 2D plane in erms of centroid distance and area differences.
