On the Phase Demodulation for the Phase Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry

  • Original language description

The paper presents a phase-sensitive Optical TimeDomain Reflectometry (phi-OTDR) system based on coherent heterodyne detection for vibration sensing. The.-OTDR measures external disturbances by analyzing phase changes in Rayleigh backscattered light, offering higher sensitivity compared to intensity-based methods. The paper proposes a phase demodulation algorithm to retrieve vibration information accurately. Experiments were conducted with 71 Hz and 89 Hz vibrations applied to a 10 m fiber segment within a 1300 m sensing fiber. The proposed approach successfully extracts phase and frequency information, demonstrating its effectiveness for distributed acoustic sensing applications.
