Experimental Evaluation of the Quality of Aircraft Composites with Respect to Lightning Protection
Original language description
Composite materials have been preferable to conventional metals for their advantages in weight, strength, and durability. However, due to their poor electrical conductivity, composites for aircraft construction are subject to challenges related to lightning strike protection (LSP), and Electromagnetic Interference shielding. To address these issues, the incorporation of one or more conductive layer(s) into polymer composite structures to create conductive composite materials has been one of the most prevalent solutions. This paper presents experimental tests conducted on Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) specimens featuring conductive layers with different structures and dimensions. The aims are to analyze electrical properties and identify the factors of conductive layers influencing electrical properties of conductive composites. The results are expected to present a composite material analysis method from the perspectives of LSP and EMI shielding and provide more insights into the electrical behavior of conductive GFRP composites.
