Radiative capture cross-section for 89Y at neutron energy of 14.96 ± 0.15 MeV
Original language description
Yttrium (Y) being one of the most crucial rare-earth elements has a magic nucleus with N=50. The increased stability of the Y-89 could show peculiar behaviour in comparison to its neighbouring nuclei. A thorough study was carried out to determine the cross-section of Y-89 through neutron activation analysis using mono-energetic neutrons with an energy of 14.96 +/- 0.15 MeV. The sample of Y2O3 and monitor Aluminium (Al) were irradiated at IPR, Gujarat, India. The induced radioactivity was measured by offline gamma-ray spectroscopy in a pre-calibrated High purity germanium (HPGe) detector. The measured cross-section is compared with previous experimental studies (EXFOR) and Evaluated library ENDF. At last, the theoretical code TALYS-2.0 is simulated to predict the reaction cross-section values for 89Y(n, gamma) Y-90(m) and understand the influence of shell closures in 89Y.
